Success can be interpreted in many ways.It can mean different thing to
different people.Success can have latent, inherent, oblique and literal
meaning to an ordinary reasonable mind.In this article we are going to
explore various aspects of success in relation to One Malaysia Concept
introduced by our Prime Minister, DATUK NAJIB RAZAK, immediately after
assuming the country's top most leadership of this country. Most
Malaysians believe that HIS intention was sincere.Introducing new
"political philosophical ideology" is a common approach by any new
leader intended to be remembered.

The lateTunku Abdul Rahman was known for his "extensive political
compromises" the father of Independence. His successor the late Tun
Abdul Razak is the proponent of the New Economic" and thus accorded as
the master of "Rural Economic Development". The late Tun Hussein Onn
is the "nicest and the most accommodating" Prime Minister with out any
air of arrogance, ever smiling, overtly obsessed in meticulousness and
observantly good listener. Thus he is known as MR NICE AND CLEAN.

Tun Mahathir Mohammad, who is a medical doctor, has different
discipline from the previous three heads, all of whom are British
train lawyers. He introduced look east policy to spite the arrogant
western powers. He is known as Malay ultra nationalist, decoratively
pragmatist, master strategist, modernist in thinking and practical in
approach, economically traditional and conservative in application,a
great risk taker and spender, the most controversial in political
thought and style, widely respected for his courage and
intelligence. He is conservatively autocratic and arrogance. However  he
is  "the acknowledged king of Malaysian Cyber Space Technological
Development" of the modern Malaysia. He bequeathed the Malaysian Vision
of 2020.

His successor commonly known as PAK LAH,  Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,
is well known for his political philosophic idea of ISLAM
HADARI.Unlike Tun Mahathir who is from Raffles College Singapore, Pak
Lah is the first Prime Minster who is the product of our local
renowned institution of higher learning: University Malaya. As local
graduates we shared his achievement and pride.

Our current embattled Prime Minister Pak Najib is an English educated
"economist" initially from the famous Malvern College, United
Kingdom. His liberal political policy of one Malaysia must have been
greatly inspired by his early training whereby identification of
success is based on meritocracy not on ethnic or political
affiliation. His vision to achieve a developed country supported by
high income society is indeed praiseworthy and commendable especially
with the noble intention of creating over a million jobs within
foreseeable expectation.Weather or not his ideal can materialize very
much depends on the collective commitments of his current political
team to "retain economic.social and political comfort they hitherto
enjoy". Only the out come of PR 13 can conclusively tell.

Should the undercurrent inconsistency is allowed to continue
unabated,as if he is under the traditional influence of the unexpected
changing behavior of the British weather,Malaysian clouds that usually
follow inclement weather can induce storms and heavy convectional
rains. Thus political floods would inevitably cause social havoc and
economic disaster in the country. This situation is highly probable if
not possible.

Pak Najib like his late father inherited the country when the
political strength of the government in power was its lowest ebb.His
father took over the helm from Tunku after may 13th incident of1969
essentially force by UMNO old guards who were obviously worried over
the country's future especially the UMNO Malay.Similarly Pak Najib
took over the country after Pak Lah failed to get two third majority
political support in Parliament.Pak lah fate and Tunku is not exactly
dissimilar in many aspect. Both incidents indicated the dwindling
support of Malay Muslim voters for the BN government on the face of
mounting support for the opposition.Let us look at the election
results of 1969 comparable to 2008,the out come was indicatively
alarming especially for the government in power. The 1969 loss was
attributed to overplaying racially sensitive issues by the opposition
while the 2008 dismal result was conspiratorially organised by UMNO
young Turks who want immediate meteoric rise to control power
internally at the expense of the veterans and equally influential and
experience members. This political scenario has overemotional took
center stage with in the UMNO political activities so much so that
sign of eminent splits is predictable.

In 1969 the Alliance Government managed to obtain only 49.3% popular
votes and got 65.97% of the seats out  of 144 which was 95 seat while
the opposition obtained 50.07 popular votes by winning 49 seats which
was 34.03% of the total seats. In 2008 the opposition obtained 82 seats
of 222 in total representing 36.93 % of thee seats and 48.8% of the
popular votes while the BN got 140 seats which represented 62.6 % of
the seats while in terms of popular votes they only got 52.2 % .These
obvious discriminatory out look are caused by the an even demographic
division and the delineation of  electoral boundaries in respect of
the distribution of registered voters eligible to vote in these
respective areas. This apparently illogical and unfair voters
representation in all constituencies in the country was arrived at
either by way of demographic sizes of the area of the constituencies
or the size of the voters concentration within a specific area
particularly in the major cities of the country. If you look purely
from statistical calculation, the apparent discrepancies is very
obvious which needs immediate rectifications to give meanings to the
principle of fair and just representation. This is one of the demands
brought up by the opposition through BERSIH which has no current legal
representation in parliament For the opposition to succeed, the
legislation governing the methods of new delienations to be made
before pr 13 , must by legal necessity obtain two third support of the
current members of parliaments which they do not have at the moment.
Then how to achieve the demand?  Various avenues have been chosen and
many efforts organised to get the reform done, neither was
successful. In all these efforts the NGOS and the opposition
failed.Only BN and Najib succeeded in maintaining status qua to rule
the country. Can we call this democracy in operation?

Democracy is power.Power is the law.It is absolute even with out two
third majority whereby both the opposition and the government cannot
or obstinately refused to accede to wishes of the opposition which
clearly works to undermine the power of the incumbent. No leader will
agree to give political opportunity to the opposite camps when
surrendering means signalling a death warrant.I am optimistic that the
opposition would do the same once they are in power.

Let us recall indicative incidents that have transpired from the
various legislative meetings in both the BN and opposition controlled
states in the country.Selangor state assembly recently booted out few
opposition members (UMNO) from the Dewan for infringing the Standing
orders and this was followed by the Malaca Legislative Assembly when
the opposition(DAP) was ejected from the Dewan.Sarawak State Assembly
notoriously refused and rejected the opposition motion and question
from being debated in the Dewan.

In Parliament most of the opposition members of Parliaments who are
vociferous and constructively critical were legally, though
illogically in practical sense, unceremoniously suspended by the
speaker for a period which seems to be unreasonably harsh. For
instance, the power conferred on the committee of privileges to
determine any abusive and sensitive languages uttered by any member of
the House was monopolized by the majority in term of members
appointment.

Since Parliament is supreme in term of enacting legislation, its
supremacy can only be questioned, not removed, by the correct
interpretation of the intention of any legislation passed, by members
of Judiciary which are deemed to be independent. However,in our country
Judicial Independence only exists in theory especially when their
appointments are beholden upon the KING acting on the advice of the
Prime Minister of the country.A case in point is that the Chief
Justice of the country was and perhaps is spiritually, a former UMNO
legal member. This apparent bias in the way of choosing the appointee
is counter to the legal principle of audio Ultram pat um.

Does this means triveresity of justice? Public interpretation may be
so. But the spirit and the letter of the actual interpretation must
necessarily conform with the meaning for which justice seek to
redress.Justice misconceived by reasonable thinking layman can
dangerously be offensive to the country's legal system. as is
currently happening now which keeps on dragging country's
judicial, executive and political image down the drain. This is
horrendous and morally unacceptable value system in modern democracy.

This weakness was undeniably exploited by many resenting public
working in parallel collaboration with the NGOS and the opposition
emulating the examples precipitated by current uprising in the
troubled middle eastern countries.Arm twisting oppressive methods to
quail people mounting resentments only invite worsening situation. The
end results of prolonged eminent problems in our midst if remain
unsolved will destroy the smooth working of democracy. Undoubtedly
chaos may benefit any opposing party but the entire population will
bear the cost of sufferings.Anarchy must not rule the day and it
should be eliminated by all means by any side who practice unruly
tactics.

The government, the ngos and the opposition must sit down seriously
and genuinely to prevent anarchy taking over the country. No sane
Malaysian would like to see the peace and harmony be destroyed by the
very people who want to maintain power or those wanting to assume
power through the downfall of the incumbent.A show of numerical
strength through people's power will definitely be dealt with military
and security harshness. An indication is being portrayed recently even
in the absence of deliberate provocation. Although this is mere
observational perception, the potential threats are foreseeable if
stubbornness,arrogance,revenge,hatred, intuitive illusions are
unreasonably fanned to incite racial, social, economic and political
emotions with unreasonableness.Situation which all of us want to avoid
may and can happen.

Compromise and restrain is the winning principle of moderation which
our prime minister has been lecturing to world leaders lately. If he is
successful in propagating his new political philosophy to non
Malaysian, we believe there is no apparent reason why he could not
count on his Malaysian peers to give helping hands to achieve his
inclusive vision of One Malaysia of people first followed by
performance. He needs to immediately look for extraordinary power
achieve his mission.

The power of LOVE and COMPROMISE must be immediately spread far and
wide to cover the entire spectrum of the Malaysian community.Love your
neighbor as you love yourself should be our unifying motto to achieve
lasting political peace.Love kills hatred and jealousy.Love is divine
and jealousy is a curse.Political power with love can divide and
unite.

Mahathir and Annuar divided UMNO. with hatreds. Annuar unites the
opposition forces.Najib and Annuar were once on the same political
raft to keep UMNO afloat. Both has the power and ability to destroy and
build the country divisively.

Destruction is a curse. You build the country means you prosper your
neighbor. If Pak Lah can extend his hand of forgiveness to his former
enemy while in UMNO which eventually gave him political freedom, I see
no reason why Naji could not emulate Pak Lah example.

Even Nelson Mandela who is a non Muslim pardoned most of his white
enemies who put him in the Island Prison for 27 years. Our Prime
Minister Najib is in the best position to exercise his peaceful and
rational discretion to evoke peace deal with Anuar for the sake of our
country's continued peace and stability. To love is to forgive.
Forgiveness is divine. To hate is a curse.

There is no shame in extending forgiveness to your enemy for the sake
of Islamic Jihad. FORGIVENESS especially in the coming RAMADHAN and
SHAWAL is the most honorable form of Jihad..The shame lies in
perpetuating to harbor hatred by ignoring truth merely to give vent to
revenge instead of accepting and extending the RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT
OF TRUTH  AND LOVE.

Love guides our conviction, shapes our future and guarantees our
success. In this respect LOVE AND FORGIVENESS is indivisible. They are
like body and soul. They enrich happiness and reduce sorrow.

A leader who is guided by the power of love in order to up lift our
humanistic value to a higher level of spiritual and material
progress,we must be prepared to increase out input to understand the
true meaning of knowledge of love and ignore the "traditional
numerical political strength" or economic influence.

Our quest for the true value of love must stem from our sincere desire
to rise to greater height, to attain loftier human values to secure a
better existence in conformity with approved religious tenets. This
implies our determination to achieve victory over falsehood and to
abolish deceit and trickery within our midst. We must strive to discern
what lies behind matters such as corruption, abuse of power and
injustice, to shift the truth from the clamor of falsehood and the
maize of deceit.

We must not be victim of a great conspiracy of ignorance and
silence.Ignorance and silence can influence circumstances of dominance
and therefore force into submission.A religiously inspired political
leader is always constrained by the power of love for the truth while
materially guided politician strives on the policy of winner takes all
and loser loses all: truly adhering to the letter and spirit of the
maxim; "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". To
this group entrenchment of political power is of paramount importance.

It is therefore incumbent upon our devoutly religious political
leaders to submit to the supreme authority of Allah and our Prophet
Mohammad in respect of guidance for public life.God's injunction is
very clearly stated in the Quiran: "Oh you who believe! Betray not the
trust of Allah and his messenger, nor knowingly betray that with which
you have been entrusted", that is our mission to struggle to grasp
power for the triumph of truth.
