Dilemma taib

"A reliable internally generated rumor" has unexpectedly churned
secret information to the effect that an important announcement will
be surprisingly made in conjunction with the proposed Cabinet
Reshuffle recently announced by the Chief Minister. At the time of
writing this article no specific subject was indicated. However pbb
sources point to one common prediction that the chief minister will
call it a day in September.Who to succeed him will remain a mystery
known only to the current beholder and the Prime Minister.

His planned departure must include naming a specific successor
acceptable by Sarawak people, the state BN and the Prime Minister as
the Chairman of Barisan National Government. Will this move reduce
political squabbles in  the state ? Will his retirement open
floodgates of opportunities for power struggle within PBB and Barisan
political leaders? Will his honorable departure be reciprocated with
an accord of immunity against future criminal proceeding for his past
misdeeds? Must Immunity be made a fundamental term of his voluntary
resignation ? Will his selected successor be able to guarantee that
there will be no witch hunting after his retirement? In the event that
succession problem is settled before the PR 13 and that a switch of
political fortune against BN in Federal happens unexpectedly, can his
successor stop the federal power from pursuing the current demands to
bring him to justice for corruption which is pending investigation?
These are perhaps some of the most pertinent political considerations
bordering the minds of the two leaders.

The above "assumptions and possibilities" are inherent political
deli-ma facing the two personalities. In spite of mounting pressures
from international agencies, Macc investigations on corruption, his
re-negation on his promise to the Prime Minister, and a considerable
"show of incapable brains" within his party to defend him, he still
appear to hold absolute confidence in his ability to garner and
command undivided political support from his peers. In fact he has
recently expressed his political arrogance against Kuala Lumpur
without any reservation implying that the State political autonomy
must not be unnecessarily impaired. This seems to be a  new political
twist to distract Kuala Lumpur attention from putting and exerting
pressure on the State Leadership succession problem.

He still firmly believes that his massive wealth, his forty years of
experience, political shrewdness and master tactician of the highest
order,an influential and powerful member of an international Freemason
organisation and endowed with Islamic and legally trained intelligent
mind of an astute businessman, are his great management assets which
none of his present political colleagues can match by any standard.
Except for his age,his ailing health, his greed and his tainted image
of corruption,he has all the trappings and qualities of a Prime
Minister in the making if he had been within the UMNO leadership
hierarchy.Do you think so? In UMNO money call the short in grabbing
internal power struggle.

At seventy five and having been in politic since 1963 and having
achieved almost all what one wants in life, spending extra years in
power, earning extra million along the way, planning new development
projects for the country and simultaneously adding more new enemies
screaming and persistently humiliating at you in your final haste to
achieve a new uncharted destiny, amounts to an incriminating act of
self assassination beyond reproach.
His unhesitating ambition to be remembered which he used to confide to
some of his intimate friends in the seventies remains as a living
proof.Hence it would not be far wrong for us to assume that the office
of Sarawak Chief Minister will only be vacant through natural divine
intervention.
